Job Description

Renaissance BioScience Corp. is looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working development & oenology technician to join our growing R&D team. This position is full-time, permanent position, and will be based out of our R&D laboratory, located on the main UBC campus (410-2389 Health Sciences Mall, Vancouver, BC).

The development & oenology technician will be responsible for designing, monitoring, and reporting on fermentative beverage experiments for the purposes of screening yeast. The candidate must have experience with proper methods for the sterile culturing and manipulation of yeast. Knowledge of yeast genetics would be considered an asset.

The chosen candidate will be responsible to setup and maintain a wide array of fermentations (for wine, fruit wine, beer and distilled spirits) from benchtop to 100L stainless steel fermentations. In addition to experimentation the technician will also be tasked with maintaining all equipment in the fermentation laboratory.

This position involves generating reports, which will be used for international technical papers, marketing materials, conference presentations, and customer support. For this reason, we ask that the candidates have experience with writing scientific literature.

Renaissance has a worldwide customer base so candidates must be fluent in English and French in order to communicate with winemakers in our main market jurisdictions. Proficiency in Italian and Spanish would be considered an extreme asset.

Bachelor’s degree in oenology is required and a master’s degree would be an extreme asset.  A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience (post-graduation) is essential and experience with wine research is preferred.
